Call for Participation in IEEE BTS Young Professionals Workshop

We cordially invite BMSB2026 delegates to the BTS Young Professional (YP) Activity Workshop, a part of the 21st IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting (BMSB) in João Pessoa, Brazil. The Workshop will be held from from 2:00 p.m. to 3:40 p.m., July 09, 2026, at Manaíra Hotel.

This workshop welcomes all delegates who are studying or conducting research in multimedia and broadcasting technologies. You can join a forum of scientists and engineers presenting your work/research plan, getting feedback, and possibly starting collaborations. This workshop helps students transition to young professionals within the IEEE BTS community.  

This workshop requires participants to present their current study/research and future goals in a 3-minute briefing in English. The workshop will last 1 hour and 40 minutes. A light refreshment, snacks, and drinks are provided. This event is free, but registration is required.   • Around 10-12 presentations. After each presentation, a certificate will be issued to the presenter by the activity chair and workshop chair in turn.

BTS YP Workshop Organizers:

Eneko Iradier received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of the Basque Country in 2018 and 2021, respectively. He is part of the Radiocommunications and Signal Processing (TSR) research group at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Languages and Systems. In 2017, for a year and a half, he worked as a student researcher at the IK4-Ikerlan technology center, developing URLLC communications and ultra-low-consumption systems. During his doctoral studies, he completed an internship at the Communications Research Centre Canada in Ottawa. He is a co-author of more than 80 papers published in international journals and presented at conferences. He has served as a reviewer for several renowned international journals and conferences in wireless communications. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting. His current research interests include the design and development of new AI-based technologies for the PHY/MAC/RRM layers of wireless communication systems.

Fadi Jerji (S’18, M’23) Holds a PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Mackenzie Presbyterian University (2023), a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with distinction and honors from Mackenzie Presbyterian University (2019), and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on Computer Engineering and Automation from Homs University, Syria (2010), validated by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Electronic and Computer Engineering) (2017). He was a professor in the Electrical Engineering course at Mackenzie Presbyterian University (2019-2021). He currently participates in projects carried out by the Digital TV Laboratory at Mackenzie Presbyterian University. His research interests include artificial intelligence and advanced digital communications, including evolutionary computing, artificial neural networks, machine learning, channel coding and error correction codes, time and frequency synchronization techniques, channel estimation, and modulation techniques’ optimization. In these areas, he has published scientific articles in major international conferences and specialized journals. He has experience in the field of Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on embedded systems, computer architecture, parallel computing, reconfigurable logic, digital communication, computer networks, software-defined radio, and industrial automation.

IEEE HT Workshop: Advancing Technology for the Benefit of Humanity

Summary

IEEE Humanitarian Technologies (HT) is a consortium of programs and initiatives—supported by a global network of volunteers and technical professionals—working together to apply technology to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

In keeping with the IEEE mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, IEEE HT provides the resources, partnerships, and tools for developing and deploying innovative solutions to advance sustainable development goals globally while achieving social and environmental impact locally. The IEEE HT mission is to support impactful and ethically informed volunteer-led initiatives, programs and projects. IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The vision of the IEEE HT Board (HTB) is to inspire and empower IEEE volunteers around the world carrying out and supporting impactful humanitarian technology activities at the local level.

IEEE HTB partner with a diverse group of private and public organizations, multilaterals, and academic institutions to advance technology in the social impact sector:

This workshop is supported by IEEE HT. The following strategic pillars of humanitarian technologies will be discussed:

  • Become the Center of Humanitarian Expertise & Knowledge: Aggregate and provide knowledge and expertise in humanitarian technology to fuel the design, training, education, optimization and implementation of initiatives for maximum efficacy.
  • Establish Infrastructure for Impactful Programs: Establish program management rigor including framework to track impact metrics, best practices, progress tracking mechanisms and supportive tools to identify gaps and provide actionable recommendations for long-term project sustainability.

IEEE HT Workshop Organizer:

Morgan Kiani (S’05–M’05–SM’17) is a Professor in the Engineering Department at Texas Christian University (TCU), where she leads educational and research efforts in modeling and diagnostics of electric machines and adjustable speed motor drives. She received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington, USA in 2009. She has authored a monograph and many scientific articles in her field of research. She has been a faculty advisor for the IEEE student chapter and Robotics student club at TCU. She is serving as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification and IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Industrial Electronics. Her research, scholarly activities, teaching and service in the engineering department at TCU, across IEEE Societies, IEEE Councils, and IES have allowed her to empower individuals to engage in activities that promote access to clean green energy and healthy living locally. She has been an influential member of the Woman in Engineering within IES and introduces resources that can help women set higher education and career goals in STEM fields locally and globally. She has been an active member in IEEE Industrial Electronics Society for over 17 years and has been serving in different positions and committees in IES, including but not limited to the Industrial Electronics Society Administrative Committee member – AdCom Member since 2019.
